WEIGHTED BEADHEAD NYMPHS

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Walt's Worm

Walt’s Worms imitates cased caddis. 3x long sz 8 This is one of my heaviest weighted flies and is a key pattern in my system fishing plan for Trout.

  • WMD

The weapon of mass destructiion is our “GO TO” dropper fly! Squirrel dubbing w/ hints of UV Ice, “WMD” is a time tested deadly fly.

WEIGHTED BEADHEAD NYMPHS

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Meatball Caddis Larva

Meatballs have a tungsten bead, lead underbody tied on a scud hookto imitate caddis larva & pupa.

  • Hide a Bead Nymph

Natural squirrel dubbing with a wire rib for buggy durability and a turkey wing case hiding the brass bead. I use this pattern mostly as a trailer or when the fish get bead shy.

UNWEIGHTED WETS, TRAILERS AND EMERGERS

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Hatching Pupa Soft Hackle

I fish it in the surface film either on the swing down and across or behind a dry fly. Deadly fly that I tie in sz. 12 -16.

  • Ugly Bug

Ugly bug is a caddis emerger. We fish it as wetfly swinging it down and across tied in sz. 10 to 16. Deadly

UNWEIGHTED WETS, TRAILERS AND EMERGERS

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Flick Hendrickson Nymph

This old school Catskill pattern was invented by Art Flick who wrote the “New Streamside Guide” published in 1969. I use this nymph in April and May.

  • Flick March Brown Nymph

The March Brown imitates pale mayfly nymphs like cahills, sulfurs, march browns and gray foxes in late May, June and July.

UNWEIGHTED WETS, TRAILERS AND EMERGERS

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Dark Squirrel Nymph (unweighted)

This is an all purpose nymph that is darker than a hare’s ear and without the bing ribbing. Its more durable than a pheasant tail and it imitates most mayflies in a trout stream. I tie them in sizes 10 -16. This is a deadly trailerfly!

  • Isonymph

This is one of my signature patterns published in “Guide Flies”. It imitates a Dun Variant Isonychia. I tie is it in a size 12 unweighted because they emerge by crawling onto a rocks out of the water to hatch in August and September.

“GO TO” DRYFLIES

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Deerhair Caddis Dry

Deerhair Caddis a great search fly especially in riffles and I often use it as an indicator with an Ugly Bug in sizes 12-16

  • Rusty Spinner

If the Trout are rising steady with calm sipping in their rise form, they are eating spent mayfly spinners that are hard to see. This would be our first choice in tied in sz 12 -18.

“GO TO” DRY FLIES

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Ausable Wulff (tan)

This is my springtime hi-viz search dryfly. I use a tan dubbing to imitate hendricksons, march browns and gray fox. Best used April to mid June in sizes 12 -14. Tie one on!

  • Yellow Adams Wulff

This is my summertime search dryfly for mountain brook fishing. Highly visible, it’s a great strike indicator fly in fast water. Best in June to September in sizes 12-16

“GO TO” DRY FLIES

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Classic Light Cahill Dry

This traditional pattern should be included in every fly box! Its a classic Catskill fly that imitates all pale mayflies that hatch end of May to July. I tie them in sizes 12-16.

  • Blue Wing Olive CDC Dun

BWO CDC Dun is a flush floating dryfly the partners with rusty spinners, and no hackle caddis for selective rising trout all season. I tie them in sizes 16 -20, for July to Oct.

Compra~Usual

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Rusty Usual Compradun

Caucci / Nastasi wrote “Hatches” 1975 with concept of Comprahatch. Their fly was tied like this but with a deerhair wing. Local legend Fran Betters tied a Ausable Usual with local Snowshoe rabbit feet hair. I crossed them in sizes 12-16 , tails either hackle or microfibetts.

  • Cream Usual Compradun

These are the three primary colors mayfly duns come in over the coarse of the whole season. The Snowshoe hair by leaving the underhair is extremely buoyant, couple hard false casts and ready to roll. Makes a great indicator dry with an emerger trailer. Eastern “hopper dropper” rig

Usual Compraduns & No Hackle Caddis

FOUR FLIES FOR $10.00

  • Olive Usual Compradun

The olive is my summer to fall fly I use with small dries, midges and pheasant tails as trailers. The size 16 its not a first choice for super selective fish on a big hatches of 20s. But it’s deadly as a sighter to trail tiny flies most people can’t see in the riffles where the happy fish are.

  • No Hackle Caddis Dryfly

This pattern is my #1 favorite dryfly. Without hackle it sits flush in the water, is still highly visible and the fish take with confidence May through October. If I could only have one dryfly pattern to personal fish, it would be this tan No Hackle in a size 14 / 16, they never leave my vest.

Two fly tandem rigs to fish from top to bottom

STREAMERS

THREE FLIES for $10.00

  • Weighted Muddler Minnow

This iconic pattern was invented by Don Gapen in 1936 to catch large Canadian BrookTrout. He tied it to imitate Sculpin and was heavy weighted and tied sparsely. Dan Bailey made the Muddler popular with a mail order catalog in the 1950’s. Dan’s version was buoyant with a bigger head to imitate grasshoppers. Mine are weighted and I fish it as a streamer down & across with a twitch.

  • Cone Head Olive Woolly Bugger

Classic all purpose streamer, I use black if the water is muddy but I prefer the olive day in day out. I tie in LG and MED cone heads in a size 8. This is another pattern that travels well. Bass and Crappie love it too.
